DIAM BOUCHAGE LAUNCHES MYTIK DIAM 10. A CORK WITH MECHANICAL AND OXYGEN MANAGEMENT PROPERTIES SPECIALLY DEVELOPED FOR CELLAR AGEING CHAMPAGNE.
French cork manufacturer, Diam Bouchage, has a major R&D department which has been working for 4 years on the creation of a new production technique for its Mytik Diam cork. The aim is to meet the requirements of the Champagne market in terms of mechanical lifespan and permeability.
"Several clients have mentioned in recent years that they need a cork which has a longer lifespan than is currently available on the market. In addition to the many independent laboratories we work with on permeability tests, it was important for us to implement tests with winemakers themselves, to validate the organoleptic results. Our most loyal clients have accompanied us throughout this process, on a co-development basis.” Alain Schmitt, Regional Director EAST-CHAMPAGNE, Diam Bouchage.
TECHNICAL INNOVATIONS
Mytik Diam 10 has been designed to maintain high and consistent mechanical properties for over 10 years. As with our Still Wines range, accelerated ageing tests have confirmed the exceptional durability of this cork. Its mechanical capacities notably allow for improved preservation of C02 pressure over time.
Oxygen control is the second innovative feature of Mytik Diam 10. The amount of O2 desorbed from the cork – or the OIR (Oxygen Initial Release) - is in fact designed to be much lower than that of traditional corks, and this is achieved homogeneously from one cork to the next thanks to a specific manufacturing process. This allows the oenologist to control the desorption of O2 during disgorgement.
Finally, the Mytik Diam 10 has a very low OTR (Oxygen Transfer Rate via the cork) to ensure optimal evolution of the bottled wine.
These technical characteristics are especially adapted to winemakers who propose sparkling wines for ageing and sparkling with low or no sulphites. Mytik Diam 10 also offer numerous advantages to more sensitive products such as Champagne rosés or half-bottles.
"We have worked on the mechanical strength of our corks. The longer a cork lasts, the more its permeability must be controlled, and the development of this new product absolutely required precise control of gas exchanges, which is today the number one subject in modern oenology!” Dimitri TIXADOR, Permeability Project Manager, R&D Diam Bouchage
SOURCING FRENCH CORK
Diam Bouchage has been working for many years to revive the French cork industry and offers its clients the option of French cork from the Pyrenees Orientales, Var and Corsica regions. Given that Mytik Diam 10 was developed for the Champagne market and is entirely made in France, the company has decided to offer it exclusively in French cork.
THE MYTIK DIAM RANGE
Mytik Diam 10 offers all the guarantees of the Diam Closures range: organoleptic security, homogeneity and oxygen control.
It completes the company's range of sparkling wine corks, which have been renamed for greater clarity. Mytik Diam Access is now Mytik Diam 3 and Mytik Diam Classic is Mytik Diam 5.
As with its still wines range, Diam Bouchage gives winemakers the opportunity to choose their closure according to the evolution they wish to observe after several years in the bottle.
DIAM BOUCHAGE
Diam Bouchage is a French company located in the southern Pyrenees. It brings over fifteen years’ experience to its objective of finding innovative solutions adapted to wine makers’ needs. The company produces and sells nearly 2.3 billion corks each year and has built its success on its Diamant® process, which extracts the TCA molecules (≤ the limit of quantification of 0.3 ng/l) responsible for corked wine, as well as 150 other scent molecules. It offers a wide range of corks to meet its clients’ requirements in terms of oxygen supply for optimised ageing.
In Champagne, the company is historically located in Cumières in order to offer a local service to the Champagne market. Talking numbers: one in every four bottles of Champagne today uses Mytik Diam.
