After a two-year break due to the pandemic, July 2022 marked the grand return of the exclusive Jornada for Grupo Rioja, a group which brings together the 50 largest bodegas in the Rioja appellation.
After inauguration of the day by none other than Fernando Salamero, CEO of Grupo Rioja, and Javier Gallarza, Diam sales rep, a host of leading speakers took part in discussions around the key theme of “reinventing the future” by taking a look back over the Rioja wine classification model alongside the associated value creation:
- Philippe Cesco, Champagne distributor in Spain looked at the value-generation model of Champagne.
- Enrique Porta, KPMG consultant, outlined the strategic plan of Rioja for 2021 – 2025.
- Joé Luis Benitez, Managing Director of the Spanish Wine Federation looked at the current challenges for the Spanish subsidiary.
The conference was followed by a round-table looking back at the various subjects discussed during the day. Discussion centred notably around future challenges, value creation and the impact of what was already done and what could still be done. More than 65 people, including directors and representatives from the Bodega marketing teams of the group, discussed the future of the profession as well as possible solutions to be taken now or in the near future.
The morning was rounded off by tasting a selection of Champagnes with Mytik Diam corks, representing the entire Champagne region, all grape varieties and mixing small-scale Champagne makers with the largest Champagne Houses.
